Join us as we delve into July’s comprehensive Google Analytics Stats and Recipe Recap, offering transparent insights into our growth, challenges, and culinary creations. This monthly report provides a valuable overview of our journey, highlighting strategies that worked and areas for future focus.

July was an exceptionally busy and exciting month in the kitchen, filled with new recipes and flavor experiments that truly delighted our community. But beyond the delicious dishes, it was also a period of significant operational changes and continuous growth for This Gal Cooks. Overall, July proved to be a remarkable month for the blog, showing consistent upward trends in traffic and engagement. While our bounce rate remained relatively stable, ensuring visitors found exactly what they were looking for, the underlying story of July involved a pivotal decision concerning our website’s foundation – its hosting provider.

Overcoming Hosting Challenges: A Journey to Speed and Stability
Last month presented a significant hurdle as I encountered major issues with my previous hosting company, Bluehost. In an effort to enhance site performance and deliver a faster experience for you, my valued readers, I had upgraded to their pro-hosting plan in June. Regrettably, this decision proved to be a misstep. Soon after transitioning to the new plan, which involved moving to a different server infrastructure, my website began experiencing intermittent downtime. These unexpected outages were incredibly frustrating and directly impacted user experience and, consequently, our traffic metrics.
I promptly contacted Bluehost’s support team regarding these recurring issues. The initial response indicated a server error that required restoration, along with a recommendation to implement page caching. Following their advice, I began caching pages using one of their provided tools, but the underlying problems persisted. The situation reached a critical point one Saturday morning when my site went completely offline for a staggering four hours. This prolonged outage was unacceptable and severely affected our daily pageviews, plummeting to a mere 680 views on that particular day – a stark contrast to our usual performance.
The experience underscored the critical importance of reliable hosting for any online platform, especially a growing food blog like This Gal Cooks, which relies on consistent availability to serve its audience. After enduring these persistent issues and the detrimental impact on our performance and peace of mind, I made the decisive choice to switch hosting providers. I migrated the entire blog to Servint, a move that has since proven to be invaluable. Since the transition, my site has been incredibly fast, boasting impressive loading speeds and, crucially, absolutely no downtime. This newfound stability has not only improved the user experience but has also laid a solid foundation for continued growth and SEO performance.
Analyzing July’s Digital Footprint: Key Google Analytics Insights
Despite the hosting disruptions early in the month, July still showcased impressive growth across key performance indicators. Let’s dive into the specifics of our Google Analytics statistics for the month, revealing the trends and metrics that define our audience engagement and reach:
- Page Views: Our total page views saw a healthy 13% increase, rising from 50,918 in June to an impressive 58,980 in July. This upward trend indicates that readers are consistently finding and exploring more content on the blog, spending more time engaging with our recipes and articles.
- Unique Visitors: The number of unique individuals visiting This Gal Cooks also climbed by 12%, growing from 29,320 in June to 33,511 in July. This metric is a strong indicator of our expanding reach and growing audience base, showing that new readers are discovering and returning to our platform.
- Visits: Total visits to the blog increased by 13%, from 35,384 in June to 40,984 in July. This reflects an increased frequency of engagement, with readers returning to the site multiple times within the month, likely for new recipes or to revisit old favorites.
- Bounce Rate: Our bounce rate experienced a slight increase, moving from 82.21% in May to 82.30% in July. While a slight increase, it remains within an acceptable range for a content-heavy blog, indicating that while some visitors may leave after viewing one page, a significant portion continues to explore. We continually strive to optimize content and internal linking to encourage deeper site engagement.

Strategies That Fueled Growth: Driving Engagement and Traffic
Several conscious efforts and consistent strategies contributed to the encouraging growth we observed in July, demonstrating the power of a multifaceted approach to blog promotion and community engagement:
- Active Participation in Link Parties: I continued to actively link up to various online parties, which proved to be a highly effective method for driving traffic to This Gal Cooks. These platforms, such as Lady Behind The Curtain, Six Sisters Stuff, and Chef In Training, are fantastic communities where bloggers can share their latest creations and discover new content, channeling interested visitors directly to our site.
- Strategic Social Media Sharing: Leveraging the power of social media, particularly Facebook and Twitter, remained a cornerstone of our promotion strategy. I made it a point to share our “Marvelous Mondays” link-ups, always including a direct link back to the party page along with the specific link-up number. This not only boosts traffic to This Gal Cooks but also reciprocally drives traffic to the talented individuals who participate in our link-up events, fostering a supportive community.
- Enhancing Internal Linking: A simple yet powerful SEO strategy I continued to implement was adding photos with direct links to older, relevant recipes at the bottom of my new posts. This practice not only encourages readers to explore more of our extensive recipe archive but also improves our site’s internal link structure, which is highly valued by search engines.
- Dedicated Comment Engagement: Building a strong community is paramount. I continued my commitment to respond to each and every comment left on the blog. Beyond that, I make a genuine effort to visit a post from those who take the time to comment on This Gal Cooks. I firmly believe that if someone invests their time to engage with my content, it’s essential to return that blog love by visiting their space and interacting with their work. This fosters genuine connections and encourages ongoing interaction.
- Reflecting on Consistency: It’s worth noting that towards the end of July, I did begin to slack off slightly on consistently linking up to parties. This coincided with a slight decrease in pageviews, suggesting a direct correlation between consistent promotion and traffic. However, this decrease also began around the time of the Bluehost issues, so it’s challenging to isolate the exact cause, and I may still be experiencing residual effects from that significant downtime. The lesson here is clear: consistency in promotion is key.
Understanding Your Audience: Key Referral Sources
Understanding where our traffic originates is crucial for refining our outreach strategies and identifying valuable partnerships. Here are the top sites that effectively drove traffic to This Gal Cooks in July:

One notable development in our referral landscape is the unfortunate cessation of Recipenewz, which previously served as a significant source of traffic. As the screenshot clearly illustrates, Recipenewz was the fourth largest referrer to our site in July. Its closure will undoubtedly impact our pageviews in August, necessitating a proactive approach to identify and cultivate new referral channels. This highlights the importance of diversifying traffic sources to mitigate the risk associated with changes in any single platform.
