Stitch Fix June 2014 My Favorite Finds

My journey into the world of fashion has taken a fascinating turn lately. What began as a mild curiosity has blossomed into a genuine obsession, a statement that would have sounded utterly preposterous to anyone who knew my past relationship with clothing. For years, the mere thought of shopping for garments filled me with dread. I was the quintessential picky and budget-conscious shopper, a combination that invariably led to frustrating and unproductive trips to brick-and-mortar stores.

Stitch Fix June 2014 - A new fashion journey begins

My aversion stemmed from a dual problem: my reluctance to spend significant money on clothes often meant sacrificing quality and fit. Cheaper garments inevitably fell apart quickly or simply didn’t drape well on my frame, leading to constant dissatisfaction. While I appreciated the concept of discount stores offering great deals on quality apparel, the reality of “digging through racks” felt more like an archaeological expedition than a pleasant shopping experience. The effort rarely justified the potential reward, and I often left empty-handed and exhausted.

This persistent frustration eventually led me to a pivotal realization: perhaps my difficulty wasn’t with clothes themselves, but with the traditional shopping process. The time-consuming nature, the crowded stores, and the hit-or-miss inventory all contributed to a less-than-ideal experience. It became clear that I needed a different approach, one that aligned more with my desire for quality, convenience, and a touch of excitement.

The Transformative Power of Online Shopping

And so, I discovered the magic of online shopping. My initial foray into this digital retail landscape began a couple of years ago with New York & Company. Their physical stores, though now a bit further from my current residence, had always impressed me with their clean, organized layouts and a consistent selection of well-made clothing that fit my body shape beautifully. After moving 25 miles away from the closest location, transitioning to their online store was a natural progression, and it was through this experience that I truly fell head over heels for online retail.

The anticipation of knowing a package of new clothes is en route to my doorstep brings a pure, unadulterated thrill. It’s like receiving a carefully curated gift, chosen just for me. And the convenience? Unparalleled. The ability to try on items in the comfort of my own home, without the pressure of a fitting room, and the ease of simply sending back anything that doesn’t quite work, completely revolutionized my perspective on clothes shopping. This newfound love for online retail set the stage for an even more personalized and exciting venture: Stitch Fix.

Stitch Fix: Your Personal Stylist, Delivered

My introduction to Stitch Fix came courtesy of a fellow blogger, Ashley from Spoonful of Flavor, whose enthusiastic posts about her “fixes” immediately piqued my interest. What she described sounded almost too good to be true: a service that combines the convenience of online shopping with the expertise of a personal stylist, all tailored to the average person. This concept was an absolute game-changer for someone who loathed traditional shopping but yearned for an updated, well-fitting wardrobe.

Stitch Fix operates on a brilliantly simple premise. After you create a detailed style profile – a comprehensive questionnaire covering your size, preferred fit, style preferences, lifestyle, and even price range – a personal stylist is assigned to you. This expert then hand-picks five clothing items and accessories specifically chosen to match your profile and sends them directly to your home every 2-3 weeks, or at whatever frequency you prefer. The best part? You get to try everything on in the comfort of your home. You keep what you love, and for anything that doesn’t quite hit the mark, you simply send it back in the postage-paid return bag provided by Stitch Fix. It’s a win-win situation that takes all the guesswork and hassle out of clothes shopping.

The beauty of Stitch Fix lies in its ability to introduce you to pieces you might never have picked for yourself, pushing your style boundaries in a comfortable way, while also ensuring that the selections align with your stated preferences. It’s an effortless way to discover new brands, experiment with trends, and build a cohesive wardrobe without ever stepping foot into a crowded mall. If you’re ready to transform your approach to fashion and experience the joy of a truly personalized shopping experience, I wholeheartedly recommend giving it a try. Unveiling My Second Stitch Fix: June 2014 Edition

Today, I’m thrilled to share the contents of my second Stitch Fix box with you. Although I regrettably didn’t get around to posting about my inaugural fix – mea culpa! – I’m making up for it now with a detailed look at this exciting delivery. While I’m not quite ready to showcase try-on photos of myself just yet, I’ve created a fun and informative collage on Polyvore that highlights each piece from my box, along with some suggested pairings to illustrate how I’d style them. All images in my collage are either my own, sourced from Polyvore, or directly from the Stitch Fix website.

Stitch Fix June 2014 review - Curated fashion finds

  1. Abrianna Longsleeve Knit Cardigan / $48.00 – This cardigan was an absolute delight! From the moment I pulled it out of the box, I was impressed by its incredibly soft texture and lightweight feel, making it perfect for layering during breezy Florida evenings or in air-conditioned spaces. The way it flowed beautifully when draped was instantly appealing. Despite my genuine affection for this piece, I ultimately decided to return it. My closet already boasts two beautiful coral-colored cardigans, and while this one was lovely, I couldn’t justify adding a third in a similar hue. It was a tough decision, but I prioritize variety in my wardrobe.
  2. Rylee Waist Twisted Maxi Skirt / $68.00 – The style of this maxi skirt was undeniably cute, and the fit around the waist was spot on. However, I’ve long had a personal preference against maxi skirts. My main reservation stems from the feeling of fabric dragging on the floor as I walk, which I find incredibly distracting and, frankly, a bit unhygienic. If this skirt had been an above-the-knee or midi length, I likely would have kept it without hesitation. The design was flattering, but my practical aversion to floor-length skirts meant this piece, despite its charm, had to go back.
  3. Camille Striped Pockete Tank / $44.00 – This tank top was an instant win! I was immediately drawn to its classic striped pattern and the thoughtful addition of a pocket detail. What truly impressed me was its fit: it wasn’t overly tight or constricting, yet it managed to look incredibly flattering when worn. It’s the ideal garment for Florida’s hot and humid summers, offering breathability and effortless style. In fact, I loved it so much that I wore it the very next day after receiving my fix, layering it with a pale mint green tank top for a fresh, coordinated look. This piece was an absolute keeper, and I envision it becoming a staple in my casual summer wardrobe.
  4. Joshula Colored Ankle Jean / $64.00 – Ankle pants have become my absolute go-to for trousers, precisely because of my disdain for anything that touches the floor. So, you can imagine my excitement when I discovered these colored ankle jeans in my Stitch Fix box! I adored the vibrant color and the perfectly tailored ankle length – they seemed to tick all my boxes. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm was quickly tempered by the fit. They were simply too small, particularly around the waist and hips, sitting uncomfortably low. Despite my love for the style and color, comfort and a proper fit are non-negotiable for me. Sadly, I had to send these back, which was a genuine disappointment.
  5. Kacie Half Flap Crossbody Bag / $48.00 – This crossbody bag sparked a significant internal debate. The color was gorgeous, the style was chic, and it offered a surprising amount of room without feeling bulky or cumbersome – all qualities I look for in a bag. I could easily envision it as a versatile everyday accessory. However, I have been eyeing a specific Epiphanie bag for some time, a purchase I’m planning to make in the near future. After much deliberation, I made the tough decision to return the Kacie bag, prioritizing my long-term desire for the Epiphanie piece. I may have shed a metaphorical tear over sending this lovely bag back, but sometimes, a girl has to stick to her strategic accessory goals!

So there you have it – the detailed breakdown of my second Stitch Fix experience. Today marks a small but significant milestone: it’s the very first time I’ve posted a fashion-focused article on this blog! I thoroughly enjoyed writing this post, delving into the specifics of each item and sharing my thoughts. This positive experience has convinced me that I will be making monthly posts detailing the Stitch Fix goodies I receive, making fashion a new, exciting recurring theme here. I sincerely hope you enjoyed this delightful deviation from my usual food-centric content today!
